OKX Simple Earn: Displayed APR, Actual Interest Calculation, and Redemption Terms

The displayed APR for OKX Simple Earn is not a guaranteed payout. This article covers Flexible, a product that distributes interest generated from a crypto lending pool. The actual amount depends on the applicable APR, balance used for calculation, eligible time, and service fee. The option to request redemption does not guarantee that you can always trade or withdraw immediately.

The official materials were reviewed on November 2, 2026. The calculations below are AKEYX recalculations using publicly available formulas and assumed values; they are not the results of testing actual subscriptions, redemptions, or payouts to an individual account. First check the product screen and terms applicable to your region, entity, and account.

What is Simple Earn Flexible, and how is it different?

Flexible is not a bank deposit that promises a fixed annual return. OKX explains that it lends pooled crypto assets to platform borrowers and distributes interest from the asset pool after deducting fees. It should not be treated as having the same structure as on-chain staking, which participates in blockchain validation, or DeFi products in a Web3 wallet.

An announcement effective August 27, 2026, says that the minimum lending APR input previously set by users has been removed and that eligible subscriptions will receive proportional allocation. Therefore, the current Flexible product is not described by the former approach of “setting a high minimum APR to lend at that rate.” The actual applicable APR may rise or fall depending on factors such as pool demand and liquidity. See the official change announcement to check the effective date and structure.

CategoryMeaning in this articleWhat not to confuse it with
FlexibleA flexible lending product with no fixed termExceptions may delay or restrict redemption
FixedA separate product with a set termRedemption before maturity may be restricted once matched funds are drawn down by the borrower
On-chain staking and DeFiSeparate blockchain and protocol structuresDo not apply Flexible’s formulas or fees as-is
Basis for distinction: Simple Earn Terms 2.1 and 4.3–4.7, and the change announcement. The detailed calculations in this article are limited to Flexible.

The currently available assets, terms, and rates for Fixed are not generalized here. Differences in custody and recovery responsibilities between exchange accounts and personal wallets are covered separately in the comparison of exchange accounts and Web3 wallets.

How are the displayed APR and actual interest calculated?

First, check what the figures represent. APR is an annualized rate, estimated earnings are estimates for a particular amount and period, and actual payouts are the results recorded in the payout history. Comparing figures from different times or using different deduction bases directly can lead to an incorrect assessment of the source of a discrepancy.

The official change announcement describes Flexible’s estimated hourly interest as follows: Estimated hourly interest = subscription amount × Earn APR ÷ 365 ÷ 24 × 85%. Under the current announcement and Terms 4.7, the service fee is 15% of the interest accrued, not 15% of the principal. This is not a fixed condition, so check the latest information for the applicable product and entity.

Note on the deduction basis: Below, APR is defined as the input value used in the formula above, before the service fee deduction. If the figure shown is already estimated earnings or an actual payout after the fee deduction, do not multiply by 85% again. If the description next to the figure does not make clear whether it is before or after deductions, check with official customer support and hold off on calculating until you can confirm.

AssumptionsInterest before deductionsEstimated amount after 15% deduction
1,000 USDT · 8% APR · 1 eligible hour0.00913242 USDT0.00776256 USDT
1,000 USDT · 8% APR · 6 eligible hours0.05479452 USDT0.04657534 USDT
1,000 USDT · 8% APR · 24 eligible hours0.21917808 USDT0.18630137 USDT
1,000 USDT · 2% APR · 24 eligible hours0.05479452 USDT0.04657534 USDT
AKEYX illustrative calculation: APRs of 8% and 2% are not currently offered rates. Assumes the balance and APR remain constant during the stated period, all hours are eligible for payout, simple interest without reinvestment, and a 15% service fee. Totals are rounded to 8 decimal places.

Reproducing the 24-hour example gives 1,000 × 0.08 ÷ 365 × 0.85 = approximately 0.18630137 USDT. This is the result after deducting an approximately 0.03287671 USDT fee from approximately 0.21917808 USDT before deductions. In the calculation, 8% is converted to 0.08; USDT is not treated as equivalent to USD or Korean won.

Even at the same 8% APR, 6 eligible hours is one-fourth of the 24-hour assumption. The same difference applies if the APR changes to 2%. Rather than predicting a payout, this table is useful for comparing the effects of time and rate separately. It does not include changes in asset prices or exchange rates, taxes, external withdrawal costs, promotional periods, account-specific precision, or payout eligibility restrictions.

What should I compare if the calculated estimate differs from the payout history?

Do not calculate Earn interest based only on the increase in your total balance. Deposits and withdrawals, account transfers, trades, and changes in asset prices may all contribute. Compare Earn records for the same asset, calculation period, and deduction basis.

  1. Check whether the product is Flexible and whether the applicable asset, entity, and promotional conditions are the same.
  2. Record the applicable APR and balance used for calculation for the period being compared. Do not apply today’s APR retroactively to the entire past period.
  3. Align the time zones for subscription and redemption times with those in the actual payout history. Do not confuse UTC with Korea Standard Time (KST).
  4. Distinguish between an estimate before fee deductions, an estimate after deductions, and a payout that has already been finalized.
  5. If a discrepancy remains, note the product name, asset, calculation period, and redemption status, then contact official support. Do not share your password, verification code, or recovery phrase.

Terms 4.4(l) explains that in extreme market conditions, if the pool does not generate sufficient interest, payout eligibility may be restricted based on an internal queue. Therefore, do not interpret “subscribed users receive payouts for every hour under all circumstances” or the Terms’ reference to 0.01% as a minimum return guarantee. Confirm actual payouts using the records and applicable conditions for the period in question.

Subscription time, interest payout, and redemption completion are different

The example in the official announcement explains that if you subscribe at 07:30 UTC, the balance is recorded at 08:00 UTC, and interest for the 08:00–09:00 period is generally paid around 09:00. In Korea Standard Time, these are respectively 16:30 → 17:00 → around 18:00. Since the rule is based on hourly periods, do not calculate the 30 minutes from 07:30 to 08:00 as automatically receiving prorated or partial interest.

General example of a subscription at 07:30 UTC, balance recorded at 08:00, and payout around 09:00; distinction between a redemption request and an available balance
Explanatory diagram created by AKEYX; this is not an actual OKX screen. 07:30 → 08:00 → around 09:00 UTC corresponds to 16:30 → 17:00 → around 18:00 Korea Standard Time. This is a general example based on eligible balances and periods and the Terms; it does not guarantee payout or return times.

This is an example for understanding the general calculation process, not a guarantee of payout timing. The announcement describes the lower of the balance at the start of the hour and the remaining balance after redemption during that period as the general basis for calculation. If you redeem the full amount, do not assume that interest continues to accrue on the returned assets for that hour; even with a partial redemption, check that the balance used for calculation may decrease.

This is a sequence of checks based on the official announcement and Terms 4.4(d)–(e) and 4.6. It is not a table of observed processing results for an individual account.

Flexible generally indicates real-time returns, but redemptions may be restricted or suspended if lending pool utilization is high or liquidity is extremely low. The Terms specify that from the time a redemption order is placed until the assets are actually returned, you cannot use those assets and they do not accrue interest. Do not assume you can immediately recover funds you need urgently.

For the process of moving assets to an external wallet after they are returned, consult the separate OKX deposit and withdrawal and network-check guidance. An Earn redemption is not the same as an external withdrawal on the blockchain.

Check regional conditions and the risk of principal loss first

This article does not verify any individual resident of Korea’s eligibility to sign up or use a product. The official announcement states that products and features may vary by region, and Section 3 of the Terms requires compliance with the laws of the applicable region and eligibility to use the service. Do not assume that you are eligible for Earn just because the menu appears on your screen or you have completed KYC for a general account.

Check availability for your account with customer support, based on the applicable entity, place of residence, asset, and product terms. Guidance on domestic use and regional conditions provides background for this assessment and does not replace individual authorization. Do not deposit funds in advance or bypass restrictions using a VPN, another identity, or duplicate accounts to check eligibility.

  • Principal and asset price risk: The official Terms warn that some or all of the principal may be lost. Stablecoins are also subject to price and issuer risks.
  • Borrower and platform risk: There may be problems accessing or returning assets due to loan collection, platform operational or technical failures, hacking, and other issues.
  • Liquidity and yield fluctuations: Flexible products may also have redemption restrictions, and APRs, fees, supported assets, and limits may change. Past returns do not guarantee future payouts.
  • Auto-management risks: Turning off Auto-Earn is different from redeeming assets that have already been subscribed. Section 4.4(k) of the terms separately explains how to manually redeem assets already subscribed through Auto-Earn.

Proof of Reserves and account security are separate verification materials, not certificates guaranteeing the principal in Earn. The relevant scope is explained separately in OKX security, Proof of Reserves, and account security information.

Checklist before deciding whether to use the product

  • Have you confirmed that the product is actually available in your region, under your legal entity, and for your account?
  • Have you distinguished between Flexible, Fixed, and on-chain products?
  • Have you checked how APR and service fees are deducted and which tiers qualify for bonuses?
  • Do you understand the subscription, redemption, and payout time frames, and where to check the actual transaction details?
  • Would delayed redemption or a decline in asset value affect your ability to cover necessary expenses?

If any of these items remain unverified, do not draw conclusions based only on comparing numbers; withhold judgment until you have reviewed the relevant official information. On the web, you can view eligible products and terms under Grow → Simple Earn as indicated in the announcement; in the app, go to Explore → Simple Earn. Actual menus may vary by region and version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is OKX Simple Earn the same as a bank deposit or on-chain staking?

No. Simple Earn Flexible, as discussed in this article, is a product in which the exchange lends out pooled virtual assets and distributes interest. It should be distinguished from participating in on-chain validation, and the official terms state that some or all of the principal may be lost.

If I see 8% on the screen, will I receive 8% after one year?

That cannot be guaranteed. APR is an annualized rate, and the actual interest depends on the applicable APR, eligible balance and duration, service fees, and payout terms. The 8% in this article is an assumption for calculation purposes, not a currently offered rate.

Should I always multiply by 85% once more when calculating interest?

No. The 85% factor was used to account for the 15% service fee only in the calculation formula that uses the Earn APR before deductions, as stated in the official announcement. If the estimated return or payout already reflects the fee deduction, do not deduct it again; check the basis used in the product information and transaction details.

Can I withdraw immediately after redeeming a Flexible product?

There are exceptions to the general guidance that assets are returned in real time. Redemption may be delayed or restricted due to insufficient liquidity or other factors, and you should distinguish between a pending redemption request and an available balance. Separate withdrawal requirements also apply to external withdrawals.

Can all users in Korea use it?

This article does not verify the eligibility of individual residents of Korea. Availability may vary depending on the applicable legal entity, region, asset, and account, so check the official product screen for your account and contact customer support. Do not bypass restrictions or deposit funds just to check availability.
